Forestry expertise for major infrastructure projects

  • Skills negotiation, field expertise
  • Ongoing Since 2019
  • Location Belgium, East of the province of Liege
Boucle De Est2
  • 6 major projects
  • Expertise on 110 km modernised or replaced high-voltage lines

The need to adapt the high-voltage network to the current context (e.g. the repatriation and transmission of wind energy) involves in particular the modernisation of existing overhead lines. In this context, Ecofirst strives to minimise the impact of the preparation of these works on vegetation. Where these cannot be avoided, we negotiate mitigation or even compensation measures with the landowners concerned, as well as restoration, with a view to increasing the proportion of ecological corridors after project.

From 2018 to 2023, Ecofirst worked on the « Boucle de l'Est - Step 2 » project to reinforce the line between Malmedy and Trois-Ponts, involving 40 negotiation files spread over 25 km. On this occasion, we created 18 ha of ecological corridors in addition to the areas created by the LIFE Elia project (2011-2017).

Since 2022, we have also been in charge of the expertise to ensure the smooth upgrading of the Hastière-Pondrôme line. We are handling 30 negotiation files along the 19 km of the line. 5 ha of new ecological corridors will be created.

From 2018 to 2023, Ecofirst also contributed to the renewal and relocation of the Quevaucamps-Harchies line. The 10 negotiation files spread over the 5 km of line have enabled 5 ha of new ecological corridors to be created after the works.

At the same time, Ecofirst is involved in the preparation of several future infrastructure projects in the Province of Liège from 2024 onwards.
