(FR) The Black Stork, a discreet but not shy species?

Six years ago, Ecofirst conducted its first GPS tracking program for black storks (Ciconia nigra) in the Saint-Hubert forest as part of the Nassonia project (Wallonia, Belgium). Two adult nesting birds, Evence and Freya, were equipped with high-precision GPS tags.

Evence transmitted data from July 2019 to July 2023, while Freya, whose tag was installed in 2021, is still transmitting today, five years after the tag was fitted. These telemetric tracking devices provide unique information on the ecology, behavior, and use of the territory by the species, both during nesting and migration periods and at its wintering sites.

In this article, we focus more specifically on characterizing their fishing areas and analyzing their relationship with built infrastructure, the road network, and human activities.
