(FR) Encouraging the black stork in the Ardennes: study of land use and initiatives to support the species implemented by the Nassonia project

The Saint-Michel forest, the site of the Nassonia project, has already seen the emergence of numerous research and study initiatives concerning the species and habitats that constitute it.

The black stork, an emblematic species of the Ardennes' great forest massifs, continues to expand in our region, and is well represented both inside and outside the boundaries of Nassonia.

This article, resulting from a partnership with Colruyt Group, presents a case study of two adult black storks fitted with GPS transmitters. The aim of the study was to learn more about the behavior, home range, habitat use and daily movements of this umbrella species. The knowledge of all these parameters enabled us to highlight appropriate management measures to favor the black stork in the Ardennes context.
